EHR Practice Lead

Michael Burger

Michael Burger is the EHR Practice Lead at Point-of-Care Partners (POCP), where he advises life sciences companies and healthcare technology organizations on electronic health record (EHR) workflows, clinical decision support, ePrescribing, and strategies for integrating solutions into clinical practice. Drawing on extensive clinical, technical, operational, and business expertise, Michael helps clients understand how healthcare technology influences provider behavior, treatment decisions, patient access, and the adoption of new therapies. His experience across EHR systems, revenue cycle management, and healthcare interoperability enables him to bridge the gap between technology developers, healthcare organizations, and the clinicians who rely on these systems every day.

Prior to joining POCP, Michael held senior leadership roles spanning product development, product management, and business development. At Allscripts, he led the ambulatory clinical product portfolio, which included three EHR platforms, a web-based prenatal solution, document management, clinical decision support, and clinical content products. Previously, he spent a decade leading the development and commercialization of an ambulatory EHR platform through the evolution of Medical Manager, WebMD, Emdeon, and Sage. Earlier in his career, he held an executive leadership role at ProxyMed, a pioneer in electronic prescribing networks, and developed foundational expertise in healthcare electronic data interchange (EDI) at National Electronic Information Corporation (NEIC), the industry’s original claims clearinghouse.

A recognized subject matter expert in ePrescribing, clinical and financial data exchange, and healthcare technology standards, Michael has provided expert testimony before the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS). He has guided two product management teams through CCHIT and ONC Health IT certification processes, including Meaningful Use Stages 1 and 2. Michael is also a contributing author of Electronic Prescribing for the Medical Practice and has been active in leading healthcare industry organizations, including HIMSS, MGMA, and the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP).

Michael lives in the Wake Forest, North Carolina, area, where he serves as Board Chair of Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry, an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger in his community. Outside of work and volunteering, he enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and cheering on the Tampa Bay Rays.
