Crystal Kallem, RHIA, CPHQ

Crystal Kallem, RHIA, CPHQ is a consultant at Point-of-Care Partners (POCP) with extensive experience in health information management (HIM) and health policy, with a focus on the development and implementation of international health IT data and interoperability standards that support consistent representation and transmission of data from electronic health record (EHR) systems for secondary uses.

Crystal has directed numerous federal contracts for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). These contracts have supported a range of initiatives aimed at advancing health IT, improving healthcare quality and safety, reducing provider burden, and accelerating healthcare research.

Crystal is a Project Manager on the Program Management Office (PMO) team supporting the HL7 Da Vinci Project, a multi-stakeholder collaborative that addresses the needs of the Value Based Care Community. In this role, she facilitates member-led and public community collaboration, tracks and manages Implementation Guide development and balloting processes as well as Reference Implementations and supplemental guidance for increased industry adoption of HL7 FHIR standards across 8 Da Vinci use cases.

Crystal has a diverse array of experiences and enjoys breaking down complex challenges to identify solutions that lead to successful outcomes. She has supported federal clients with development and implementation of regulated programs through strategic planning, rulemaking, program analysis, stakeholder engagement, education and outreach, and data collections methods. She also has extensive experience in quality measure development and implementation, especially those used in federal programs.

Crystal holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality. She lives in Iowa with her husband Eric, daughter Lara (a junior in college), and lively Rottweiler, Gunther. In her free time, Crystal and her husband enjoy camping, kayaking, and tending to their acreage.
